Pravins, Milton Keynes – a contemporary luxury jewellery boutique designed around warmth, consultation and brilliant product presentation.
A new boutique for an established jewellery brand
Pravins has specialised in diamonds, gemstones and fine jewellery since 1969. When the family-owned jeweller opened its new Milton Keynes boutique at centre:mk in October 2025, the store represented an evolution of the Pravins brand – contemporary and luxurious, while retaining the warm, personal experience for which the business is known. The lighting needed to support that evolution. Diamonds, coloured gemstones and precious metals required clarity, colour and brilliance, but the boutique also needed to remain relaxed enough for customers to sit, compare pieces and spend time with the Pravins team. The objective was not maximum brightness. It was the right light,
in the right place, for the right reason.
Warm timber, marble, brass and Pravins’ signature colour palette create a hospitality-led interior in which the jewellery remains the brightest point of interest.
Designed before it was built
The lighting was developed in DIALux so that the effect could be assessed before installation. Rather than relying on a uniform grid of fittings, the model allowed the scheme to be shaped around the architecture, consultation areas, display furniture and the curved wall showcases. False-colour and illuminance studies helped visualise how light would travel through the boutique and where stronger emphasis was required. This allowed the lighting hierarchy to be considered alongside the interior design: brighter merchandise zones, comfortable customer areas and controlled transitions between them.

100% adjustable: lighting that can be tuned
The complete lighting scheme is smart controlled, making the installation 100% adjustable. This gives the team the freedom to tune lighting levels to suit the time of day, the amount of surrounding ambient light, the display being presented and the atmosphere they want to create.
For a jewellery boutique, that flexibility is important. The objective is not to lock the store into one brightness level, but to preserve the relationship between the jewellery and its surroundings. Displays can retain their visual prominence while the wider boutique remains warm, comfortable and inviting.
Precision in the design. Flexibility in the finished store.
The window lantern challenge
The shopfront created one of the most interesting technical challenges in the project. Pravins’ window jewellery is presented beneath a series of internally illuminated lantern structures. These architectural features are visually strong in their own right, so the jewellery lighting had to work within the lanterns without allowing the lighting hardware to dominate the display.
Each lantern uses two Parify Cerebra 35 Pro luminaires to provide controlled illumination onto the jewellery, together with a Diamond Sparkle light to introduce the changing points of light that reveal brilliance and scintillation in diamonds. A Matrix luminaire separately illuminates the purple rear upstand, giving the display its recognisable Pravins colour and creating separation between the jewellery and background.
Four lighting jobs. One visual result.
The customer sees the jewellery – not the engineering behind it.

Making diamonds behave
differently from the background
Jewellery lighting is most effective when it creates contrast rather than simply adding more general light. Diamonds need distinct points of light to interact with their facets, while display backgrounds often benefit from broader, more even illumination.
The Pravins lanterns deliberately separate these functions. Cerebra provides the primary controlled illumination, Diamond Sparkle adds movement and scintillation to the jewellery, and Matrix treats the rear upstand as a separate visual layer. This allows the product, the brand colour and the architectural lantern to work together without competing for attention.

The consultation-led interior balances comfortable ambient light with brighter jewellery displays, supporting a relaxed and personal buying experience.
The completed shopfront shows the lanterns working as a repeated visual rhythm while each jewellery display remains crisp and prominent behind the glass.
A store designed for conversation
The interior tells a different story from the windows. Here, the customer experience becomes more personal. Consultation tables, upholstered seating, warm timber, brass detailing and the central hospitality area encourage customers to stay rather than simply browse.
That means the lighting cannot make the space feel like a conventional brightly lit shop. The wider environment is deliberately calmer, while jewellery displays provide the visual accents. The effect is closer to a luxury lounge or private consultation space – with the merchandise always retaining its prominence.

At Pravins, light connects heritage with a new generation of retail.
The store feels warm and personal. The jewellery still gets the spotlight.
From lighting calculation to finished store
The value of lighting design is visible in the relationship between the original model and the finished boutique. The DIALux studies established the intended hierarchy before installation; the completed photographs show that hierarchy translated into a real retail environment. The lighting does not attempt to make every part of the store equally bright. Instead, it supports the curved architecture, gives the windows enough presence to work against the surrounding shopping-centre environment, and keeps the jewellery displays visually dominant.

Who designed the lighting for Pravins Milton Keynes?
Parify Lighting developed the specialist jewellery lighting scheme for the Pravins boutique at centre:mk, using DIALux modelling and lighting analysis to plan the relationship between displays, customer areas and the wider interior.
What was unusual about the Pravins Milton Keynes window lighting?
The window displays use internally illuminated architectural lanterns. Each lantern combines two Cerebra 35 Pro luminaires for the jewellery, a Diamond Sparkle light for additional scintillation, and Matrix lighting to illuminate the purple rear upstand.
How do you make a jewellery shop feel luxurious without making it too bright?
Use visual hierarchy. Keep the wider environment comfortable and restrained, then apply brighter, carefully controlled illumination to jewellery and important displays. This creates a premium atmosphere while naturally directing attention to the merchandise.
Why use smart lighting controls in a jewellery store?
Smart control makes the Pravins lighting scheme 100% adjustable. Lighting levels can be tuned to changing daylight, different displays and the desired ambience, helping the jewellery remain visually prominent without making the whole boutique unnecessarily bright.
How should engagement rings and diamonds
be lit in a jewellery store?
Diamonds benefit from controlled directional light and distinct points of illumination that interact with their facets. A combination of general display illumination and specialist accent lighting can reveal brilliance and scintillation without making the entire store excessively bright.
Why use DIALux for a jewellery store lighting design?
DIALux allows the designer to model light distribution before installation. False-colour visualisations and illuminance studies can help assess where emphasis, contrast and comfortable ambient levels are required across a jewellery showroom.
What Parify products were used in the Pravins window lanterns?
The lanterns use two Parify Cerebra 35 Pro luminaires, one Parify Diamond Sparkle light and Matrix lighting for the coloured rear upstand.
