Case Studies

Keanes jewellers

A jewellery lighting case study in controlled contrast, atmosphere and invisible illumination.

Location: 10 O’Connell St, Prior’s-Land, Limerick, V94 A4TY, Ireland.
Project: Lighting + DIALux
Key Products: Cerebra 35 Pro . Reflect . Prail . Diamond Sparkle

The Brief: Make the Jewellery the Hero

Keanes Jewellers wanted a lighting scheme that would promote and sell jewellery while preserving the character of a luxury store: ambient, relaxed and inviting. The challenge was not to make the whole interior brighter. It was to create a deliberate hierarchy of light – enough intensity, precision and contrast to make jewellery visually compelling, while allowing the surrounding architecture and customer areas to remain calm and comfortable.

That distinction shaped the project. Parify developed the complete lighting scheme around the merchandise, the windows, the interior displays and the customer experience, rather than treating the store as one uniformly illuminated space.

“We didn’t design the lighting to be seen. We designed the jewellery to be seen.”

Lighting designed to disappear

At Parify, we believe successful jewellery lighting should not compete with the product. The luminaire should recede visually; what the customer notices is its effect – brilliance in a diamond, depth in a gemstone, warmth in precious metal, clarity in a watch and a natural visual route through the store.

That philosophy is especially visible at Keanes. The finished environment does not announce the lighting equipment. Instead, the eye is pulled towards illuminated merchandise, displays and points of interest, while the wider interior remains composed and welcoming.

Windows that work as a selling space

A jewellery window has to compete with daylight, reflections, surrounding retail and the movement of people outside. At Keanes, Parify specified Cerebra 35 Pro luminaires in the windows to create controlled, adaptable illumination that gives the merchandise visual authority without turning the fittings themselves into the feature.

Cerebra 35 Pro offers adjustable colour temperature and dimming, allowing the lighting character to be tuned to the display and the wider environment.

Special interest: creating sparkle without visual clutter

For selected areas, Parify Diamond Sparkle lights add a further layer of visual interest. The system is designed to enhance the scintillation and movement perceived in diamonds and gemstones, creating changing highlights that attract the eye while the lighting hardware remains secondary to the jewellery.

Diamond Sparkle combines precision optics with dynamic motion to enhance the natural fire and scintillation of gemstones. Discover the Diamond Sparkle Light

Jewellery remains the visual focus: light reveals colour, form and brilliance while the source stays unobtrusive.

A calm customer environment: the lighting supports the space without visually dominating it.

A softer, layered approach inside

Inside the showroom, Parify used Reflect and Prail lighting as part of the layered scheme. Rather than flooding every surface with the same level of light, directional illumination was used to support displays, circulation and customer areas with a more considered rhythm.

Reflect provides discreet directional control for areas where the beam needs to be aimed precisely. Explore Parify Reflect

Prail provides a versatile recessed lighting platform for the wider retail environment, with beam and colour-temperature options that can be selected to suit the space. Explore Parify Prail

The customer sees the displays and the atmosphere first – not a ceiling full of lighting equipment.

The result: jewellery first

The completed Keanes Limerick scheme demonstrates a principle easy to overlook in retail lighting: the brightest shop isn’t necessarily the best-lit shop. Effective jewellery lighting is about control – where the light falls, how much is used, the beam angle, colour quality, colour temperature and, crucially, the contrast between merchandise and its surroundings.

At Keanes, the windows attract attention; the jewellery and watch displays have the clarity and emphasis they need; selected pieces gain additional sparkle; and the surrounding interior remains relaxed and inviting. The lighting does not compete with the jewellery. It sells it.

Designing the scheme in DIALux before installation

Parify used DIALux professional lighting design software to model the store and curate the lighting levels before installation. This allowed the team to evaluate the relationship between ambient illumination and brighter display zones, test how light would read across the floor and window areas, and refine the scheme around the client’s preferred atmosphere.

The false-colour study was particularly useful as a design tool: it made the relative distribution of light immediately visible, helping the team refine contrast and avoid the flat, over-lit appearance that can undermine premium jewellery presentation.

Questions jewellery retailers ask us

Who designed the lighting scheme for Keanes Jewellers in Limerick?

Parify Lighting designed the complete lighting scheme, using DIALux to model the store and curate the balance between ambient light, display lighting and feature lighting.

How do you light a jewellery store without making the whole shop too bright?

Use contrast and hierarchy. Keep the general environment comfortable, then direct higher-quality, controlled light onto windows, cabinets and key merchandise so the product becomes the brightest and most visually important element.

What lighting was used at Keanes Jewellers Limerick?

The scheme uses Parify Cerebra 35 Pro luminaires in the windows, with Reflect and Prail lighting internally and Diamond Sparkle lights for selected points of special interest.

Why use DIALux for jewellery store lighting?

DIALux allows the lighting concept to be modelled before installation so designers can assess distribution, relative light levels and the relationship between ambient and focal illumination.

What type of lighting helps diamonds sparkle?

A combination of controlled illumination, good optical quality and changing highlights helps reveal a diamond’s scintillation. Parify Diamond Sparkle is specifically designed to introduce dynamic highlights for diamonds and gemstones.

Questions jewellery retailers ask us

Every jewellery store has different ceiling heights, window conditions, cabinet construction, finishes, merchandise and customer expectations. Parify therefore starts with the environment and the commercial objective, then designs the lighting around what the customer should see and feel.
